Setting up your year
The planner is built in three layers, and the first time you open it a short guided setup walks you through all three:
- Students. Add each child once. Everything else hangs off a student.
- A term. Your school year, or a piece of it: a start date, an end date, and the day of the week your co-op or community day meets, if you have one. A term is what the planner fills.
- Subjects with lessons. For each subject you tell the planner which weekdays it meets and how many lessons the year holds, and it lays them out across the term as Lesson 1, Lesson 2, Lesson 3… skipping days off and your community day.
Three ways to get lessons into a subject:
- Count them out. Say "36 lessons, Monday through Thursday" and the planner places them. Change the pace later (one lesson every two days, one a week) and it re-lays them out.
- Scan your curriculum (Premium). Photograph the table of contents of the book you are using and the planner reads the lesson titles in, numbered as the book numbers them. Those titles are yours: moving or deleting a lesson never renames the others.
- Type them in. Add a lesson by hand with any title and any date. Hand-typed lessons behave exactly like generated ones from then on.
Two children doing the same book? Build it once, then use Copy to another student on the subject screen. It copies the whole schedule, with a fresh set of check-offs.
Your day
Today is where you will live. It lists each child's lessons for the day with a checkbox, any activities, today's events, supplies you need to gather this week, and a row for every subject that has fallen behind, with a Catch up button beside it. Homework, extra credit, and reading time have their own cards when you use them.
Calendar shows the same plan by month, by day, or by week. Tap a day to see its lessons; tap a lesson to open it. Two children on the same lesson of the same book share one card so you check it off once.
Editing a lesson
Open any lesson from the Calendar or from its subject's list. Besides the title, notes, dates, supplies, and an optional grade, the form has a few buttons worth knowing:
- Mark as done / Mark as not done. Check a lesson off from any day, or reopen one that was ticked by mistake. A lesson that spans several days gets every day ticked.
- Change the dates and the rest follow. Lessons in a subject are linked: type a new date for one and every unfinished lesson after it moves along behind it, in order, onto the subject's school days. Lessons before it stay put, finished lessons never move, and the form tells you what followed, with Undo. Two open lessons only share a day when you put them there on purpose.
- Move this lesson to today. When you open a lesson you missed, this reads We fell behind here. The lesson lands on today and every unfinished lesson after it moves along behind it, in order, so today never holds two lessons at once. If you open a lesson that is ahead of the plan, because your child raced through the book, it comes to today, the unfinished lessons before it are checked off as done, and the rest close up behind it. Either way the form tells you exactly what moved, and Undo puts everything back.
- Lessons that no longer fit. Moving lessons along can push the last few past the end of the term. When that happens you get two buttons on the spot: Extend the term to fit, which moves the term's last day out to hold them, or Move them to the next term, which puts them at the front of that subject in your next term and slides its lessons along. You see the dates before anything changes.
- Wrong subject? Move the lesson to another of the same child's subjects.
- Delete. The planner asks first, and a deleted subject, term, or lesson waits under Profile → Recently Deleted with every check-off that went with it, so it can be put back.
Daily tasks per lesson
Some subjects have work that goes with every lesson: a warm-up, flashcards, a reading day, a worksheet day. On the subject screen, under Daily Tasks per Lesson, pick a weekday, type the task, and tap +. You can add as many as you like per day.
The rule: each lesson gets its tasks on the weekdays you chose, from the day the lesson starts until the next lesson begins.
- A subject with a lesson every day gets its tasks on the same day, beside each lesson: a math lesson plus its warm-up, every day.
- A subject that meets once a week, say a co-op on Tuesday, fills the rest of the week: tasks on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and the following Monday belong to Tuesday's lesson.
- A lesson that spans several days gets its tasks inside its own days.
Tasks are checkable like lessons, days off stay empty, and the planner rebuilds them whenever your lessons or tasks change. Checked-off tasks keep their checkmarks.
Life happens
The Life happens button on Today is for the week that did not go to plan. Pick what happened, tick the subjects it applies to, and the planner shows you every lesson that would change date before anything moves:
- Push everything forward. Today did not happen. Everything still to come slides later by a day (or two, or a week, or to a day you pick), gaps and all.
- Catch up and close the gap. You are further behind. Every unfinished lesson is re-placed in order from the day you pick up again, with the gap closed.
- We already did these. You started using the planner partway through the year. Everything scheduled through a day you pick is checked off in one go, so attendance and reports give you credit. Nothing moves.
- We got ahead. A child raced past the plan. Every lesson checked off early moves to the day it was actually done, and the unfinished lessons after it move up behind it.
Finished lessons keep their day in every case except We got ahead, and community days never move. Every run is listed under Changes you've made on the same screen, where one tap undoes it.
Terms, breaks, and days off
Add as many terms as your year has. Lesson numbering carries from one term into the next, so a 120-lesson book runs straight across a fall term and a spring term. On each term, add breaks and mark the ones that are days off: a day off gets no lessons and no tasks. Holidays can be added from a list, and you choose which of them your family takes off. Your community day is left free in every subject except the co-op subject itself.
Your kids
- Who's learning today? One login for the family. On the picker each child taps their own picture to open their planner; the Parent tile opens yours, behind a PIN if you set one.
- Kid mode shows a child only their own day: lessons to check off, a streak that rewards showing up, and their memory verse. Each child can have their own color scheme.
- A login of their own. From the Students screen you can create a username and password for an older child so they can sign in on their own device. It sees only their planner.
- Checklist, grades, verse, books, activities. The chips beside each student's name turn these on per child: a daily checklist, grades on lessons, a Bible memory verse that rotates on a schedule, reading plans and independent books, and outside activities with attendance.
- Homework and extra credit. Recurring work a child does on their own, and optional tasks that earn points toward rewards you define.
Reports
The Reports tab shows each child's progress by subject, an attendance log built from the days a scheduled lesson was completed, reading totals, and the Year-End Report. A day still ahead is never counted, even if the work is already ticked, so the report is always true as of today.
Printing
The Templates tab turns your plan into a printable planner. Choose a design, then print the whole year or, on Premium, any range: a week, a month, a term. Reprint any time the plan changes; the pages come out matching what is in the app. Family photos you add from the Photos card on Today appear in the year-end pages.
Account and billing
- Every plan starts with a 5-day free trial. Basic is $2.99 a month for one student; Premium is $8.99 a month or $69.99 a year for unlimited students, curriculum scanning, field-trip suggestions, the full template gallery, and printing any date range.
- Profile → Billing opens your subscription: change plan, update your card, or cancel. A new checkout replaces the old plan rather than adding to it.
- The planner works in your browser today at lumen-domus-app.vercel.app; on a phone, add it to your home screen for a full-screen app. The iPhone and Android apps are coming, and they add reminders and syncing lessons into your phone's calendar.
- Delete my account is at the bottom of Profile. It cancels your subscription and removes your family's data as the Privacy Policy describes.
